Acupuncture, an ancient form of medical practice, is the stimulation of specific points on the
body which have the ability to alter various conditions in order to achieve a healing effect.
Traditional Chinese medicine philosophy views disease as a result of an imbalance of energy in
the body. Acupuncture is believed to balance this energy to help the body heal itself.
In Western terms, acupuncture can stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasms,
and cause the release of hormones.

At Paws In Motion, we use acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal disease such as arthritis. It can be
used in addition to traditional medications or by itself. Many dogs and cats need arthritis pain
relief but for a variety of reasons cannot tolerate taking the common oral medications. This is
where acupuncture can be a great help to your pet.
Most patients do quite well during the actual treatment. We try to make the setting as relaxing as
possible using soft music and a fluffy bed on the floor. The needles stay in place for 10-20
minutes. Typically the sessions are conducted once weekly initially. Improvement in the condition
can usually be seen by the third session.
